Remember Me Thursday

Today is “Remember Me Thursday,” an awareness movement event started by the Helen Woodward Animal Center to remember all the shelter animals whose lives are lost due to being homeless.

While there are many more people adopting shelter animals than ever before, currently only 30% of pets in U.S. households are rescued pets. This means 70% are still coming from pet stores (and terrible puppy mills), or other means of breeding/commercial purposes.

Responsible breeding does happen, but by and large, there is no reason why many people can’t adopt pets from rescues and shelters. Today is a day to remember pets that could have been…and raise awareness that shelter and rescue animals are a great way to add a furry member to your family! Light a candle and say a prayer of hope that we can all learn to be more humane on this fragile planet of ours. Learn more about Remember Me Thursday here.
