Congratulations to our December client spotlight, Kookabear the cattle dog!
Kookabear, aka Kooka, is a lucky girl. She was originally in a shelter, then in a bit of a rescue hoarding situation, before she was found by her wonderful, committed mother. When I first met Kooka, she wasn’t too happy to see me. In fact, she snapped at me! We realized Kooka is a bit protective of her space.
After we met and bonded in the park a few times, we decided to try it again in her home. While she still isn’t overjoyed by my presence, she’s starting to learn, through desensitization and counterconditioning (DS/CC), that strangers mean the best things–like yummy cheese! Mom is also helping her learn how to be more relaxed by doing relaxation protocol and mat work.
There are many people who wouldn’t put in the time, effort and energy to help Kooka get through this tough transition in her life. Her mother has done a great job at following our instructions and following the DS/CC plan to a T. Kooka has come a long way, but has a way to go. We are confident that with time and patience, that she will be tolerant of strangers in her home.
We really appreciate the trust and confidence Kooka’s mother has placed in us here at Delightful Doggies, and we are very grateful to get to work with them!
